Abide and Seek

Some of the best advice I have ever received came from my good friend Bobbi. While I was interning at Suncrest Christian Church and a month away from finishing the year long program; I asked Bobbi about my next steps. I recall mentioning to her that I have some pretty big decisions coming up and that I was trying so hard to figure out this “whole following God’s Will thing” for my life. Her words that followed were not what I expected. However, the words she spoke were impactful and got the wheels turning in my head. She said, “God’s will can be tough, but maybe you should just obey.” Huh? She continued, “Yeah, I think following God and His will and His plan for you more times than not, is just - Obey!” Fast forward 7-8 years later, and I still let those penetrate my heart. OBEY! In John ch.15, Jesus lays a great outline for us in what HIS daily will for our lives should look like. And it starts with - “Abide in me”. When we abide in Christ, we are simply choosing to obey Him. Verse 7 says this, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” (ESV) Looking for answers? Abide in Him. What are your next steps in life? Abide in Him. Career change? Abide in Him. Facing a new challenge? You guessed it, abide in Him! Don’t get me wrong, to abide in Jesus takes work. It’s a simple formula He has given us; and yet it takes us to be intentional about abiding in Him daily. Don’t miss out on people, relationships, situations, and even solutions that God wants to bless and provide you with. Just simply, abide in him.
