Run Your Own Race

On more times than I care to admit I will find myself in a rhythm of comparing how I live life to those around me.  Often times I will study their success and try to figure out how to accomplish the same task. I feel like I'm using all the right tools but my ending doesn't compare to theirs. Ever experience something similar? Sometimes I feel it is easier to replicate another's success strategy than to spend time figuring out how my talents and skills will create my own strategy for success. For example, if I told you the answer to the equation was 10 but I need you to solve the equation. What would your answer be? You might respond with 5+5 or 9+1 or 6+4 or even 15-5. All these answers are correct but we most likely came up with different ways to solve the equation based on our own experiences or own thinking. So how can we still be successful yet not fall into the pattern of using someone else's success strategy? Or not allowing ourselves to fall into the comparison game?

For me, I know I spend too much time trying to figure out how someone else succeeded or accomplished the task, that I forget to look up! I forget to stop, pray, and ask the one person who will provide the solution and all the necessary tools and skills needed to complete it. Instead of using the world as a benchmark for success I need to look to the one whom is the benchmark for blessings. God promises to supply all of our needs; however, I fall short in always believing that to be true. I have to remember He only supplies us with what we need to run our own race. That's right - not anyone else's race. The key is to not become distracted from running my race by worrying about other people's races. Either from a standpoint of trying to run their race for them or from a place of comparing my race to theirs. We are reminded of this very point in Hebrews 12:1 (NCV): "We are surrounded by a great cloud of people whose lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is before us and never give up. We should remove from our lives anything that would get in the way and the sin that so easily hold us back."

God's blessing or success for your life and mine will not look like anything around us because He has set before us our own race. My race and your race will be successful when our faith and future is focused on His will. This becomes the definition or strategy for success.

Faith does not have a time limit or an age limit. It just has a yes limit.
